On July 7, the Executive Board of UNESCO announced a new list of 15 world geoparks, including two Geoparks in Western Hunan and Zhangye in Gansu. Up to now, there are 41 Geoparks in China, ranking first in the world. It is reported that Xiangxi World Geopark is located in the hinterland of Wuling mountains in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Hunan Province, with 160 Paleolithic and Neolithic cultural sites. The geology of this area records the formation of the Yangtze platform and the multi-stage tectonic evolution of this foreland basin. Zhangye World Geopark is located in Zhangye City, Gansu Province, an important town of the silk road. Its most remarkable feature is the colorful hills composed of folded mudstone and sandstone. At the same time, it also has the "window lattice" and "Palace" Danxia landform formed on the mountain by natural erosion and the "Jiugequan" ophiolite suite of ancient oceanic crust, which has important geological research value.
