On October 13-15, the 2023 annual meeting of the Hydrogeology, Geothermal, and Ecological Geology Professional Committee of the Chinese Geological Society and the Water Heat Ecology Collaborative Innovation and Green Development Seminar were held in Shijiazhuang. The theme of this conference is "Collaborative Innovation and Green Development of Water Heat Ecology", inviting experts and scholars from professional fields to conduct academic exchanges and jointly explore new progress and achievements in hydrogeology, geothermal and ecological geological work that support the construction of ecological civilization and natural resource management in the new era. This conference is hosted by the Chinese Geological Society, jointly organized by the Hydrogeology Professional Committee, Geothermal Professional Committee, and Ecological Geology Professional Committee of the Chinese Geological Society, the Institute of Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, the Hebei Hydrological Engineering Geological Exploration Institute (Hebei Remote Sensing Center), and the School of Water Resources and Environment of Hebei University of Geosciences. The aim is to promote the construction of ecological civilization and environmental protection in the new era, Fully leverage the fundamental, leading, and constraining role of water resources, as well as the green emission reduction role of geothermal resources, to promote the development of hydrogeology, geothermal, and ecological geology disciplines. Wang Min, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land and Resources and Director of the Expert Committee of the China Association for Geological Disaster Prevention and Ecological Restoration, stated in his opening speech that national geological work needs to be comprehensively planned and coordinated. The development of the geological industry requires the work of the Geological Survey Bureau to closely cooperate with higher education institutions, scientific research institutions, especially geological exploration units and various industry departments. Only in this way can the geological industry be as deeply rooted and flourishing as a big tree. This conference is a great platform for close cooperation between industry, academia, and research. The research and application fields of hydrogeology, geothermal, and ecological geology are different, but closely related and of the same origin, all belonging to the field of geology. It is meaningful to strengthen basic work, trace the source, strengthen the foundation, strengthen the intersection of chemistry and science, broaden horizons, and inspire innovation. Jointly conducting academic discussions, closely combining with the new requirements of the new era, continuously promoting collaborative innovation, and persisting will definitely have a profound impact on the high-quality development of the water engineering and environmental field. Zhang Kaijun, Deputy Director of the Hydrogeology, Environment and Geology Department of the China Geological Survey, stated at the opening ceremony that in the year of accelerating the modernization of geological survey work, the joint meeting of the Hydrogeology, Geothermal, and Ecological Geology Professional Committees of the China Geological Society is of great significance and will further enhance the service capacity of water engineering, environment and geology survey to support green development, effectively promoting the development of the discipline of water engineering, environment and geology. Next, we will accelerate the construction of a modern geological survey business system, promote basic, public welfare, and strategic work in the fields of water, heat, and ecology with high quality, and strive to continuously make new progress in water engineering, environmental geology, and geological work.
