Porphyry copper deposits refer to hydrothermal deposits where mineralization is related to neutral acidic porphyry in time and space, and has a certain inherent connection with volcanic intrusion activity in genesis. They have a certain degree of alteration and mineralization zoning, and the ore is in the form of fine vein impregnation. They are characterized by large reserves, low grade, shallow burial depth, and are suitable for large-scale, mechanized open-pit mining.
Clay minerals, as contemporaneous and post stage products of porphyry copper deposits, have important guiding significance for the discovery, exploration, and development of mineral deposits. During the analysis of clay minerals in a certain porphyry copper mine H in Myanmar, geologists took three samples from the H mine, namely high, medium, and low clay samples (named High Clay, Moderate Clay, and Low Clay respectively), and the samples were ultimately crushed to -2mm. After the sample was crushed, approximately 100g was separated and analyzed using an Olympus handheld X-ray fluorescence instrument (XRF).
The analyzer used for testing is a handheld XRF Olympus C series Vanta (VCA) equipped with Ag (silver) target X-ray tubes. The Vanta handheld XRF analyzer meets the IP54/IP55 rating standard and has passed the US Department of Defense standard (MIL-STD-810G) drop test. It is sturdy and durable, suitable for harsh on-site operations. Built in silicon drift detector, combined with Olympus Axon technology, can achieve ultra-high detection speed and lower detection limit (LOD).
Olympus Vanta can directly detect samples without the need for special treatment, and can obtain qualitative and quantitative information on the elemental composition of samples within 20 seconds. On site laboratories usually take several hours or even days to obtain analytical results, while using Vanta handheld XRF analyzers, users can quickly obtain accurate results with laboratory analytical capabilities.
