On December 16, 2023, in order to promote the construction of the Black River Basin Water Cycle Field Station of the China Geological Survey, the China Geological Environment Monitoring Institute organized a seminar on the construction and operation of the Black River Basin Water Cycle Field Station in Zhangye City, Gansu Province. The meeting pointed out that the Heihe River Basin, as the second largest arid inland river basin in China, is highly typical and representative in terms of geological background and structure, water resource formation and evolution, surface water and groundwater transformation, water resource environment and ecological functions. For a long time, the China Geological Environment Monitoring Institute and the Hydrogeological Engineering Geological Survey Institute of the Gansu Provincial Geological and Mineral Exploration and Development Bureau have carried out a lot of work in the Heihe River Basin, built a relatively complete groundwater monitoring system, and laid a solid foundation for the next step of the water cycle field station in the Heihe River Basin. The meeting emphasized that the construction of water cycle field stations in the Heihe River Basin has filled the gap in the construction of water cycle field stations in arid inner flow areas, and will provide a model for monitoring water cycle balance in the Hexi Corridor, even in the northwest inner flow areas and the world's arid and semi-arid areas. It will undoubtedly promote scientific research on the coupling mechanism of hydrological multiple elements and processes in the inner flow areas, and lay the foundation for the investigation, monitoring, evaluation, and registration of natural resources in the inner flow areas. The meeting clearly stated that the next step is to expand the construction of field stations and accelerate the promotion of field station construction. Firstly, the monitoring content of field stations should be expanded to cover the entire water cycle process of the Heihe River Basin. On the basis of existing monitoring of groundwater, surface water, and atmospheric water, monitoring of geothermal water and soil water should be expanded; Secondly, strengthen cooperation, exchange, and demonstration services to support research on key scientific issues, talent cultivation, and local government water resource management in the inner flow area; Strengthen; Thirdly, in order to effectively promote the infrastructure construction of the Pingyuan Fortress Base, a clear timeline and task division have been established. About 20 leaders and technical backbone members from the China Geological Environment Monitoring Institute and the Hydrogeological Engineering Geological Survey Institute of the Gansu Provincial Geological and Mineral Exploration and Development Bureau participated in the seminar.
