The Dongshan Bay shared voyage, initiated by the Institute of Hydrogeology and Environmental Geology of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences and jointly organized by the Third Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Xiamen University, recently completed the sea sampling operation. This activity aims to make full use of scientific research vessels, monitoring and sampling equipment, strengthen test data sharing, promote comprehensive investigation and monitoring of the water environment and bottom sediments in the Dongshan Bay sea area, and maximize the sharing and utilization of scientific research resources.

Through a three-day shared voyage field operation, researchers collected a total of 153 sediment samples and 157 seawater samples, realizing the tidal temperature, salinity and flux monitoring of the Dongshan Bay time series, involving the investigation and evaluation of the source of nutrients in the coastal zone and the change of flux, the investigation and research of the carbon storage characteristics of coastal wetlands, and the investigation of the evolution mechanism of the coastal water environment and the migration and transformation characteristics of new pollutants.
This activity promoted the interdisciplinary integration of ecological geology and marine environmental science research in the coastal zone of Dongshan Bay, and improved professional skills and academic communication capabilities. The participating units of the shared voyage will use the acquired data to further enrich their understanding of the research on nutrients, carbon cycle and new pollutants in Dongshan Bay, and produce high-level results.
