Jointly Create an Underwater Cultural Heritage Archaeology Technology Collaborative Innovation Center
Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology and Shandong Underwater Archaeology Research Center recently held a strategic cooperation agreement signing ceremony in Penglai, Yantai.
According to the agreement, the two parties will build a smooth coordination and linkage mechanism, jointly promote the regional survey and archaeology of marine cultural heritage in Shandong Province, jointly create an underwater cultural heritage archaeology technology collaborative innovation center, jointly implement Shandong underwater archaeology tasks, jointly carry out archaeological research, talent training and popularization of science, jointly promote the research and development and application of underwater archaeology technology equipment, focus on solving the technical bottlenecks that affect and restrict the development of underwater archaeology work, and jointly promote the long-term development of underwater archaeology.
Liu Shaohua, deputy director of Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, said that in recent years, Shandong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism has organized underwater archaeological projects such as the underwater archaeological excavation of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, the Grand Canal, and the Ming and Qing coastal defense sites, launched the construction of Shandong's water-related cultural heritage resource database, and demarcated the first batch of underwater cultural relics protection areas. Shandong's underwater cultural heritage protection research work as a whole is at the forefront of the country. However, compared with field archaeology, Shandong's underwater archaeological work started late, lacked experience, and was in short supply of talent. At the same time, because underwater archaeological work has high requirements for underwater topography, ships and underwater detection equipment, it is hoped that the Shandong Underwater Archaeology Research Center can work with the Qingdao Institute of Marine Geology to jointly carry out underwater archaeological surveys, explorations, excavations and other preparatory work, jointly promote the high-quality development of archaeological undertakings, and vigorously promote the excellent traditional culture of Qilu.
