In order to promote the scientific spirit and the spirit of scientists and build a solid mass foundation for scientific and technological innovation, the China Institute of Geological Environment Monitoring actively responded to the notice jointly issued by 21 departments including the China Association for Science and Technology and the Ministry of Natural Resources, and successfully held the 2024 National Science Popularization Day event in Cangzhou City, Hebei Province on September 19. This event is based on the National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station for Groundwater and Land Subsidence in the Cangzhou Plain Area of Hebei Province, and the Science Popularization and Research Base for Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Land Subsidence, and is jointly carried out by the Fourth Hydrological Engineering Geology Brigade of the Hebei Provincial Bureau of Geological and Mineral Exploration and Development. Ning Di, an engineer from the China Institute of Geological Environment Monitoring, gave a special lecture on "The Mystery of Ground Subsidence" to more than 100 students from Hebei Water Resources and Electric Power College. Using rich image materials and detailed data information, he focused on the causes and mechanisms of ground subsidence, typical cases of global ground subsidence, the current status and development trend of ground subsidence in China, and the comprehensive prevention and control of ground subsidence. While stimulating students' interest in the future to deepen their understanding of geological disasters, they also broadened their learning ideas and employment directions. In addition, he also introduced the relevant information of the Field Scientific Observation and Research Station for Groundwater and Ground Subsidence in the Cangzhou Plain Area of Hebei Province and the Popular Science and Research Base for Comprehensive Prevention and Control of Ground Subsidence to the students from the aspects of construction background, significance and process, and displayed ground subsidence monitoring facilities such as stratification marks, bedrock marks, CORS stations, corner reflectors, gradient meteorological stations, and underground infiltration meters in the equilibrium test field. The volunteers also popularized the relevant knowledge of the geological environment to students from Hebei Water Resources and Electric Power College, Chongqing Road Primary School in Cangzhou City, and Shanghai Road Primary School, and guided them to visit the exhibition board of the National Field Scientific Observation and Research Station for Groundwater and Ground Subsidence in the Cangzhou Plain Area of Hebei Province. Among them, the construction of the 1500m scientific drilling hole in the equilibrium test site attracted widespread attention from students, who actively interacted with the volunteers. Relevant comrades from the Education Bureau of Yunhe District, Cangzhou City also participated in this event.
