The reporter recently learned from the Fourth Geological Team of Guangxi that the heavy sand measurement and trenching construction project in the key exploration area of western Guangxi undertaken by the team has officially started. The project is expected to achieve new breakthroughs in theoretical innovation and key technologies, and thus help Guangxi's new round of strategic actions for mineral exploration breakthroughs.
It is understood that the heavy sand measurement and trenching construction project in the key exploration area of western Guangxi for the investigation of the ore-controlling structure of the strategic tin polymetallic mineral resources in the Nanpanjiang-Youjiang mineralization belt and the optimization of the blocks is the first heavy sand measurement project restarted in Guangxi since the 1980s. It was commissioned by the Institute of Geomechanics, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences to implement the team.
Natural heavy sand refers to natural minerals that are preserved in sedimentary layers due to the physical properties of hardness, specific gravity, cleavage, etc. in the geological processes of weathering, transportation and deposition of certain minerals in ore deposits or ore-bearing rocks. The measurement of natural heavy sand is to find the most direct prospecting information for minerals with higher density.
From the 1950s to the 1980s, the data of natural heavy sand in Guangxi played an important role in the prospecting process, and a number of large and medium-sized deposits such as Jiumao Copper-Tin Mine, Pingdongling Tungsten Mine, Chongdongwan and Yidong Copper-Tin Mine were discovered successively. After the Yilan Mercury Mine in Nandan County and the Wanbaoshan Mercury Mine in Mayang were discovered successively, medium and large-scale heavy sand measurements were used for prospecting in the survey process. About 90% of the ore bodies exposed on the surface were discovered by verifying cinnabar anomalies.
