The "A natural-like island and beach maintenance design structure and construction method" developed by the Hainan Haitang Bay-Yazhou Bay Island Comprehensive Geological Survey Project Team of the Marine Energy Resources Survey Office of the Haikou Marine Geological Survey Center of the China Geological Survey Bureau has recently been granted a national invention patent.
Through investigation, the project team members found that the currently commonly used artificial sand replenishment combined with sand barrier construction technology and soft protection technology based on coastal ecosystems can repair coastal erosion, but it has poor effects on small-scale scouring and silting environments such as offshore islands. Based on the characteristics of islands and beaches, the project team members developed a natural-like island and beach maintenance design structure and construction method. The method includes a nearshore energy dissipation structure, an intertidal zone filling structure, and an island and land landscape structure that are set up in sequence from the nearshore sea area to the island land. This method emphasizes the use of natural forces to strengthen the repair and protection of island coastlines, effectively reducing the erosion and damage caused by human influence and extreme weather on island coastlines. This method explores a new beach protection technology and greatly enhances the scientific and technological innovation capabilities of Haikou's central islands and reefs.
